Festival Bahari Kepri 2018 akan dilaksanakan pada 20-24 September 2018 dengan pusat kegiatan di Tanjungpinang, Kepulauan Riau. Festival ini merupakan salah satu dari Top 100 Event Wonder Indonesia yang direkomendasikan oleh Kementerian Pariwisata dan termasuk event prioritas nasional. Festival tahunan Kepulauan Riau ini bersempena pula dengan hari jadi Provinsi Kepulauan Riau yang ke-16.

Selama masa Festival Bahari Kepri 2018 berlangsung, masyarakat Tanjungpinang dan wisatawan dapat menikmati berbagai suguhan acara wisata seperti perlombaan dan permainan bahari, tari Dangkong dari Lingga dan Karimun, pertunjukan Mak Yong dari Batam dan Bintan, Mendu dari Natuna, Gobang dari Anambas, parade Drum Band, festival kuliner, dan masih banyak lagi.

After the news of Indonesia Independence reached Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before), while these area was being under Britain colony, there was an opinion war among the people of Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before). There was people who believed Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before) should join Singapore and the other one was on Indonesia side.

Riau Islands (known as Riau before) was under Britain colony after the treaty between Britain and Dutch signed. Therefore Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before) converted from Dutch colony to Britain colony.

The opinion war were both had strong base. People who wanted to join Indonesia believed Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before) history is closer to Nusantara history. While the other believed the closeness and kinship between Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before) people with Singapore people back then is  stronger.

Have you ever heard “Sijori“, the golden triangle of South East Asia? The word Sijori that was pretty popular in Tanjungpinang and Riau Islands (known as Riau before) is the abbreviation of Singapore-Johor-Riau. Three biggest and strongest trade areas. Why is Riau included with Singapore and Johor? Because Riau was a part of Britain colonies like them and one of the most strategic region Britain had in South East Asia.

During the opinion war, Mochtar Husein, The Head of Riau Council, with his colleagues  encouraged Riau Islands (known as Riau before) as a part of Indonesia to Soekarno, the first President of Indonesia. This encouragement welcomed and fully supported by Soekarno.

After Riau Islands joined Indonesia in 1949, to make the same momentum as Indonesian Independence in 1945, therefore Tanjungpinang people made the same event on December 29, 1949. The national flag is stitched by Rahma binti Rahmat and Uni Daiya. The flag then hoisted on a house in front of Gedung Daerah Tanjungpinang. The house today is replaced by the Tanjungpinang Proclamation Monument. In 2017, the monument is restored as a city park. So now Tanjungpinang citizen and traveler could visit and enjoy the history that have been carved on this monument.

Setelah mendapatkan kabar kemerdekaan Indonesia lepas dari Belanda, wilayah Riau, khususnya Tanjungpinang dan sekitarnya, mengalami tarik-menarik pendapat. Saat itu masyarakat menginginkan Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau) untuk bergabung dengan wilayah Singapura yang saat itu dijajah oleh Inggris.

Kepulauan Riau sendiri saat itu sedang berada dalam kekuasaan Inggris berdasarkan kesepakatan antara Inggris dan Belanda. Sehingga Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau) yang sebelumnya dijajah Belanda beralih menjadi wilayah jajahan Inggris.

Tarik-menarik dua keinginan tersebut berdasarakan alasan yang sama kuat. Keinginan masyarakat untuk bergabung dengan Indonesia didasarkan pada sejarah Tanjungpinang, Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau), sebagai bagian dari sejarah Nusantara. Sedangkan keinganan masyarakat untuk bergabung dengan Singapura berdasarkan pada kedekatan dan kekerabatan rumpun yang telah terbentuk antara masyarakat Tanjungpinang khususnya, serta Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau) pada umumnya, dengan masyarakat Singapura pada kala itu.

Mungkin kamu juga pernah dengar kata “Sijori”, segitiga emasnya Asia Tenggara. Kata yang pernah populer di Tanjungpinang dan wilayah Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau) ini tak lain merupakan singkatan dari Singapura, Johor, Riau. Tiga daerah yang saling mendukung dan membentuk ikatan dagang yang kuat sehingga perekonomian sangatlah maju. Kenapa Riau termasuk? Tidak lain karena saat itu Riau merupakan wilayah jajahan Inggris seperti Singapura dan Johor yang sangat strategis untuk melakukan perdagangan dan sebagai pusat kegiatan ekonomi.

Di tengah tarik-menarik keinginan di antara masyarakat tersebut, Mochtar Husein, Ketua Dewan Riau, bersama rekan-rekan seperjuangannya memberanikan diri untuk mendesak Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau) masuk dalam wilayak kedaulatan Indonesia. Keinginan tersebut disambut baik dan didukung penuh oleh Presiden Soekarno.

Setelah penyerahan kedaulatan wilayah Kepulauan Riau (dulu Riau) kepada Indonesia pada tahun 1949, untuk melahirkan sejarah yang mirip dengan momen kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia pada tahun 1945, maka dibuatlah peristiwa yang menyerupainya pada 29 Desember 1949 di Tanjungpinang. Bendera merah putih yang digunakan kala itu dijahit oleh Rahma binti Rahmat dan Uni Daiya. Kemudian bendera merah putih tersebut dikibarkan pertama kali di sebuah rumah yang berada di depan Gedung Daerah pada tahun 1949. Rumah tersebut kini sudah berubah menjadi Tugu Proklamasi Tanjungpinang. Sehingga letak Tugu Proklamasi Tanjungpinang kini masih tetap di depan Gedung Daerah Tanjungpinang saat ini dan berada di antara pintu masuk dan keluar Pelabuhan Sri Bintan Pura. Pada tahun 2017, Tugu Proklamasi Tanjungpinang telah dibangun menjadi taman sehingga masyarakat maupun wisatawan dapat berkunjung dan menikmati sejarah yang terukir padanya dengan lebih leluasa.

Roti Jala / Roti Kirai

Roti Jala, also called Roti Kirai, is a pancake-like dish serves with chicken or beef curry soup. It’s name “Jala” which synonym to “Jaring” means net. If you unfolded Roti Jala rolls you could find it looks like a net. When you dip Roti Jala rolls to the curry soup the magic will happen. The soft texture of the rolls and its plain taste combined with the rich flavour curry soup is just perfect.

Kue Lapis and Seri Muka

Kue Lapis got its name from how it is made. To make this cake there are several layers (lapis) of color. On the picture you could see there are 5 layers of color: red, white, green, white, and red again. You could find other colors combination even the rainbow one. It tastes sweet, soft, and sticky. Kue lapis is one of Indonesia legendary cuisine that never get old or lost its fans.

Seri Muka is actually another variant level of Kue Lapis. It only has 2 layers. The one on the Top is usually green, sweet, and sticky like Kue Lapis and it also has Pandan flavor. The bottom one is usually made of sticky rice so it get crispy, salty, savory falvor with sticky texture. The combination of those is geniusly tasty!

Epok-Epok

Epok-epok (curry puff) is also called pastel on several places in Indonesia. Usually the crust is crunchy and the inside is soft. The inside could be filled by chicken, mashed/boiled potato, egg, sweet potato, vermicelli, veggies, even fish. It depends on the maker. Having 3-5 epok-epok at once definitely could make you full. 😀

Getuk

Getuk is javanese cuisine that also well-known in Tanjungpinang. It’s made of mashed cassava with sweet flavor. On the top of getuk, there is a sprinkle of grated coconut which make this cuisine rich in sweet and salty flavor.

Risoles

Risoles or Risol is one of the infamous Indonesian fries cuisine. It’s made of spring roll skin with vary filling like epok-epok. The bonus is you got cayenne pepper on every bites. So if you like spicy food this definitely is for you. But no worry, if you don’t like spicy you could just put the pepper off. 🙂

Onde-Onde

Onde-onde is kinda like pastry but also fries. Its round shape crust is chewy with sprinkle of sesame seed around the surface. It fills with sweet mung bean. The unique chewy sesame-y healthy taste is definitely a must-try.
